And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifting up their eyes, saw the Egyptians behind them: and they feared exceedingly, and cried to the Lord. And they said to Moses: Perhaps there were no graves in Egypt, therefore thou hast brought us to die in the wilderness: why wouldst thou do this, to lead us out of Egypt?

And Moses went up to God; and the Lord called unto him from the mountain, and said: Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: You have seen what I have done to the Egyptians, how I have carried you upon the wings of eagles, and have taken you to myself.

E o Senhor ordenou a Moisés: "Estende a mão e pega a cobra pela cauda." Moisés estendeu a mão e pegou a cobra pela cauda, e a serpente voltou a ser um bastão na mão dele. Então o Senhor disse: "Tu farás isso para provar aos israelitas que o Senhor, o Deus de seus ancestrais, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaac, o Deus de Jacó, apareceu a ti."

And the Lord said: Put out thy hand, and take it by the tail. He put forth his hand, and took hold of it, and it was turned into a rod. That they may believe, saith he, that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared to thee.
