Jacó se aproximou e o beijou. Quando lhe sentiu o cheiro das roupas, Isaac o abençoou, dizendo: Ah, o cheiro de meu filho é como o cheiro de um campo que o Senhor abençoou.

And said one to another: Behold the dreamer cometh. Come, let us kill him, and cast him into some old pit: and we will say: Some evil beast hath devoured him: and then it shall appear what his dreams avail him.

"Lá vem aquele sonhador!", diziam uns aos outros. "É agora! Vamos matá-lo e jogá-lo numa destas cisternas. Depois diremos que um animal selvagem o devorou. Assim, veremos no que vão dar os sonhos dele".

Now the serpent was more subtle than any of the beasts of the earth which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman: Why hath God commanded you, that you should not eat of every tree of paradise?

A serpente, que era o mais astuto de todos os animais dos campos que o Senhor Deus tinha feito, perguntou à mulher: É verdade que Deus vos disse que não podeis comer as frutas de todas as árvores do jardim?

And Lamech lived a hundred and eighty-two years, and begot a son. And he called his name Noah, saying: This same shall comfort us from the works and labours of our hands on the earth, which the Lord hath cursed.

Quando Lamec tinha cento e oitenta e dois anos, foi pai de um filho e disse: "O Senhor Deus amaldiçoou a terra, e por isso o nosso trabalho é pesado; mas este menino vai nos trazer alívio". E Lamec pôs no filho o nome de Noé.

And Moses and Aaron said to the children of Israel: In the evening you shall know that the Lord hath brought you forth out of the land of Egypt: And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord.

Moisés e Aarão disseram aos israelitas: Esta tarde sabereis que foi o Senhor quem vos libertou do Egito, e amanhã cedo vereis a glória do Senhor.

See that the Lord hath given you the sabbath, and for this reason on the sixth day he giveth you a double provision: let each man stay at home, and let none go forth out of his place the seventh day.

Considerai que foi o Senhor que vos instituiu o sábado. Por isso, no sexto dia ele vos dá pão para dois dias. Cada um fique no seu lugar, e dali não saia no sétimo dia.

And Lia conceived again, and bore the sixth son. And said: God hath endowed me with a good dowry; this turn also my husband will be with me, because I have borne him six sons: and therefore she called his name Zabulon.

Depois Lia engravidou pela sexta vez e deu a Jacó mais um filho. E disse: "Deus me deu um belo presente. Agora o meu marido vai ficar comigo porque lhe dei seis filhos". Por isso ela pôs nele o nome de Zabulon.

But he answered: Peace be with you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks. For the money, which you gave me, I have for good. And he brought Simeon out to them.

Disse-lhes o mordomo: "Ficai tranquilos, nada temais! Deve ter sido o vosso Deus, o Deus de vosso pai, quem vos pôs nas sacas aquele tesouro, pois vosso dinheiro eu recebi". E mandou trazer-lhes Simeão.

Moses said to God: Lo, I shall go to the children of Israel, and say to them: The God of your fathers hath sent me to you. If they shall say to me: What is his name? What shall I say to them?

Moisés disse a Deus: Quando eu chegar diante dos israelitas e lhes anunciar: "O Deus de vossos antepassados me enviou até vós", e eles me perguntarem: "Qual é o nome dele?", que lhes direi?

And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another: Manhu! which signifieth: What is this! for they knew not what it was. And Moses said to them: This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.

Quando os israelitas viram aquilo, puseram-se a perguntar uns aos outros: "Que é isso?", pois não sabiam do que se tratava. Disse-lhes Moisés: "Este é o pão que o Senhor vos deu para comer."

"But we, thy progeny, to whom alone / thy nod hath promised a celestial throne, / our vessels lost, from Italy are barred, / o shame! and ruined for the wrath of one. / Thus, thus dost thou thy plighted word regard, / our sceptred realms restore, our piety reward?"

"E nós, herdeiros do teu sangue e candidatos / à celeste mansão, perdidos, como vês, / nossos navios (oh que absurdo!), simplesmente / para aplacar a sanha a um coração cruel, / vítimas somos e nos vemos afastados / para longe das costas italianas. / É este o prêmio a que fazemos jus / por nossa devoção? Desta maneira / é que pretendes restaurar o nosso império?”

"Then he, at length his show of fear laid by, / 'Great King, all truly will I own, whate'er / the issue, nor my Argive race deny. / This first; if fortune, spiteful and unfair, / hath made poor Sinon wretched, fortune ne'er / shall make me false or faithless.'"

"Ele, afinal todo o receio / fingido abandonando, a Príamo assim fala: / 'Toda a verdade, ó rei, vou revelar-te, / não importando o que me possa acontecer. / Em primeiro lugar, não negarei / que sou de raça argiva; e se a sorte perversa / fez Sínon infeliz, não o fará nunca / mentiroso e falaz.'"

For I know that he will command his children, and his household after him, to keep the way of the Lord, and do judgment and justice: that for Abraham's sake, the Lord may bring to effect all the things he hath spoken unto him.

Pois eu o escolhi porque sei que ele há de ordenar aos seus filhos e aos seus descendentes que se conservem no caminho do Senhor, fazendo o que é de justiça e de direito, para que o Senhor faça vir a Abraão o que lhe prometeu.

And Moses said to the people: Remember this day in which you came forth out of Egypt, and out of the house of bondage, for with a strong hand hath the Lord brought you forth out of this place: that you eat no leavened bread.

E Moisés disse ao povo: Comemorai este dia, o dia em que saístes do Egito, onde éreis escravos, pois foi a mão poderosa do Senhor que vos libertou de lá. Por isso, não comereis pão fermentado.
