Alors l’Éternel dit à Jacob : Retourne au pays de tes pères et dans ton lieu de naissance, et je serai avec toi.

Especially the Lord saying to him: Return into the land of thy fathers and to thy kindred, and I will be with thee.

Alors Laban dit à Jacob : Qu’as-tu fait ? Pourquoi m’as-tu trompé, et emmènes-tu mes filles comme des captives par l’épée ?

And he said to Jacob: Why hast thou done thus, to carry away, without my knowledge, my daughters as captives taken with the sword?

Puissent nous juger le Dieu d’Abraham et le dieu de Nahor, les divinités de leur père !" Et Jacob jura par le Dieu révéré de son père Isaac. Jacob égorgea des animaux sur la montagne et invita ses parents au festin. Ils y prirent part et passèrent la nuit sur la montagne.

And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a title. And he said to his brethren: Bring hither stones. And they, gathering stones together, made a heap, and they ate upon it.

Laban répondit à Jacob : Ces filles sont mes filles et ces fils sont mes fils et ce bétail est le mien ; tout ce que tu vois m’appartient. Étant mes filles, comment agirais je contre elles, dès lors, ou contre les fils qu’elles ont enfantés ?

Laban answered him: The daughters are mine, and the children, and thy flocks, and all things that thou seest are mine: what can I do to my children, and grandchildren?

Tu ne m’as pas permis d’embrasser mes fils et mes filles ! C’est en insensé que tu as agi. Ma main est assez forte pour vous faire du mal ; mais le Dieu de votre père m’a dit hier : Garde-toi de parler à Jacob ni en bien ni en mal !

Thou hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and daughters; thou hast done foolishly; and now indeed it is in my power to return thee evil; but the God of your father said to me yesterday: Take heed thou speak not any thing harshly against Jacob.

Jacob fit appeler Rachel et Léa, qui étaient aux champs vers son troupeau. Il leur dit : Je vois, au visage de votre père, qu’il n’est plus envers moi comme auparavant ; mais le Dieu de mon père a été avec moi. Vous savez vous-mêmes que j’ai servi votre père de tout mon pouvoir.

Laban dit à Jacob : "Tu vois ce monceau, tu vois ce monument que j’ai posé entre nous deux ; soit témoin ce monceau, soit témoin cette pierre, que je ne dépasserai point de ton côté ce monceau, que tu ne dépasseras point de mon côté ce monceau ni cette pierre, dans des vues mauvaises.

And he said again to Jacob: Behold this heap, and the stone which I have set up between me and thee, shall be a witness: this heap, I say, and the stone, be they for a testimony, if either I shall pass beyond it going towards thee, or thou shalt pass beyond it thinking harm to me.

And Jacob being angry said in a chiding manner: For what fault of mine, and for what offence on my part hast thou so hotly pursued me, and searched all my household stuff? What hast thou found of all the substance of thy house? lay it here before my brethren, and thy brethren, and let them judge between me and thee.
