Isaac tinha acabado de abençoar a Jacó e este acabava de sair de junto do pai, quando seu irmão Esaú voltou da caçada. Também ele preparou um bom prato e o trouxe para o pai. E lhe disse: Levanta-te, por favor, meu pai, e come da caça de teu filho, a fim de que tua alma me abençoe.

Isaac had scarce ended his words, when, Jacob being now gone out abroad, Esau came, and brought in to his father meats, made of what he had taken in hunting, saying: Arise, my father, and eat of thy son's venison; that thy soul may bless me.

Disse-lhe Isaac: Como vês, já estou velho e não sei qual será o dia da minha morte. Pega tuas armas, a aljava e o arco, sai para o campo e caça alguma coisa para mim. Prepara-me um assado saboroso, como sabes que eu gosto, e traze-o para eu comer e assim te dar a bênção antes de morrer.

And his father said to him, Thou seest that I am old, and know not the day of my death. Take thy arms, thy quiver, and bow, and go abroad; and when thou hast taken something by hunting, make me a savoury meat thereof, as thou knowest I like, and bring it that I may eat: and my soul may bless thee, before I die.

Abraão disse ao mais antigo dos criados da casa, administrador de todos os seus bens: Põe tua mão debaixo de minha coxa e jura-me pelo Senhor, Deus dos céus e da terra, que não escolherás para meu filho uma mulher entre as filhas dos cananeus, no meio dos quais estou vivendo. Em vez disso, irás à minha terra, à minha parentela, e escolherás uma mulher para meu filho Isaac.

And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was ruler over all he had: Put thy hand under my thigh, that I may make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that thou take not a wife for my son, of the daughters of the Chanaanites, among whom I dwell: but that thou go to my own country and kindred, and take a wife from thence for my son Isaac.

E o Senhor ordenou a Moisés: "Estende a mão e pega a cobra pela cauda." Moisés estendeu a mão e pegou a cobra pela cauda, e a serpente voltou a ser um bastão na mão dele. Então o Senhor disse: "Tu farás isso para provar aos israelitas que o Senhor, o Deus de seus ancestrais, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaac, o Deus de Jacó, apareceu a ti."

And the Lord said: Put out thy hand, and take it by the tail. He put forth his hand, and took hold of it, and it was turned into a rod. That they may believe, saith he, that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared to thee.
