Moisés pastoreaba el rebaño de su suegro Jetró, sacerdote de Madián. Trashumando con el rebaño por el desierto, llegó hasta Horeb, la montaña de Dios.

And when Moses was gone from Pharaoh out of the city, he stretched forth his hands to the Lord: and the thunders and the hail ceased, neither did there drop any more rain upon the earth.

Moisés salió de la presencia del faraón y de la ciudad, extendió las manos hacia Yahvé y cesaron los truenos y granizos, y no cayó más lluvia sobre la tierra.

Therefore Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him: Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews: How long refusest thou to submit to me? let my people go, to sacrifice to me.

Moisés y Aarón se presentaron ante el faraón y le dijeron: "Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de los hebreos: ¿Hasta cuándo te resistirás a humillarte ante mí? Deja salir a mi pueblo para que me dé culto."

And all the children of Israel did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. And the same day the Lord brought forth the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their companies.

Todos los israelitas obraron así. Hicieron exactamente lo que Yahvé mandó a Moisés y a Aarón. Aquel mismo día, Yahvé sacó del país de Egipto a los israelitas, por escuadrones.

And they saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore, and the mighty hand that the Lord had used against them: and the people feared the Lord, and they believed the Lord, and Moses his servant.

E Israel vio a los egipcios muertos a orillas del mar. Vio, pues, Israel la mano potente que Yahvé había desplegado contra los egipcios, temió el pueblo a Yahvé, y creyó en Yahvé y en Moisés, su siervo.
